Happy September! After a much needed hiatus, I am so excited to be kicking off the blog again with a date night at the Hotel Del Coronado. The Del is such a classic San Diego landmark that never seems to lose its charm, regardless of the season.
After a week at sea, LTJG Husband got three days off so we snuck away on Friday night for a slightly adventurous and definitely nostalgic San Clemente date at the Calafia beach campgrounds.
With LTJG Hubs underway last week and heading out again soon, we wanted to squeeze a date night in this week and were dying to do something different. I found The Orchid Bar online and their summer tapas nights on Wednesdays sounded like the perfect way to mix things up, so we decided to check it out.
If sipping wine and dining on tapas in a 1920’s Spanish-style oceanfront hotel is your thing, you’d love La Casa del Camino. Built in 1929, La Casa del Camino is a hotel in Laguna Beach that has perfected the mixture of old world charm and modern amenities/cuisine, making it our favorite place to go when we get a night out. What was historically a coastal pitstop for Hollywood’s ‘golden age’ elite is now home to one of our favorite restaurants, K’ya Bistro, along with a gorgeous rooftop bar, frequent live music near the lobby bar/fireplace, and charming Spanish revival architecture and decor.
The first time LTJG Husband took this born-and-bred desert girl to his hometown of San Clemente, it took about 2.5 seconds before I was irrevocably in love with the “Spanish city by the sea.” For those of you stationed in San Diego or at Camp Pendleton, I plan on doing a full San Clemente post sometime this summer; but in the meantime, here is one easy, romantic date night idea to try out if you haven’t had a chance to explore this charming little beach town just yet.
