Happy September! After a much needed hiatus, I am so excited to be kicking off the blog again with a date night at the Hotel Del Coronado. The Del is such a classic San Diego landmark that never seems to lose its charm, regardless of the season.
“Lighthouses are not just stone, brick, metal, and glass. There’s a human story at every lighthouse…”
Is it just me or is there something inexplicably charming about old lighthouses? Living in Newport, RI for a brief time cultivated an irrevocable craving in me to know and explore the stories behind the beautiful old archicture in the cities we live, so I was a little giddy when we decided to spend a bright Saturday morning exploring the old lighthouse on the bluffs of Point Loma.
My first son Kai has always been absolutely obsessed with the ocean and all its creatures. That’s why for his first birthday when LTJG Husband was deployed, I took him to Birch Aquarium in La Jolla instead of throwing a party and even at 12 months old, he loved every minute of it. Last weekend, we got a chance to go back, and since this time around we had ‘Daddy’ with us, Kai loved it even more.
If you haven’t had a chance to check out Birch Aquarium yet, here’s a few reasons why you should!
First of all, my apologies. It is shameful how little I have updated recently and I have no excuses except that two babies is madness + Jake is gone so, so much + I am trapped in a “what is sleep?” daze (apparently my new normal), all of which have worn down my ability to creatively express anything at all. Anyway, as we run full speed ahead into September here in Carlsbad, I am/we are currently…
With LTJG Hubs underway last week and heading out again soon, we wanted to squeeze a date night in this week and were dying to do something different. I found The Orchid Bar online and their summer tapas nights on Wednesdays sounded like the perfect way to mix things up, so we decided to check it out.
