Happy Monday! It being Columbus Day, LTJG Husband has the day off and I am over the moon to have an extra pair of (good-lookin’) hands around here. I am also really excited to share one of my weekend experiences with you…
On Saturday, LTJG Hubs and I got to attend a military gala on the USS Midway. It was the first time we had been to a black-tie military event since my first son was a newborn and we really wanted to do it up, so I decided to try something new: Rent the Runway. Have you heard of it?
If not, Rent the Runway is an online boutique of sorts where you can rent high-end fashion styles for your event (wedding, gala, photoshoot, etc). Their tagline is: “Enter Your Endless Closet,” and that just about sums up how you will feel as you are clicking through their catalogue. You can search by designer, size, and style, but be sure to enter the date of your event while searching, otherwise you risk falling in love with a dress that is already reserved for someone else. There were a lot of gorgeous dresses, but since the gala was themed Blue & Gold, I landed on this one:
I opted for a four-day rental (you have the option of either a four-day rental or an eight-day rental). This meant the dress arrived on Thursday morning. The only thing I was nervous about was not being able to try it on, but Rent the Runway allows you to pick a second size to be sent for no extra charge. At around 8 am on Thursday morning, my two sizes arrived neatly folded with hangers in a large box. I was able to try them on and decide on a size (though either would have worked, which was a relief). They may have been worn before, but you would never know it. They seemed to be in absolutely perfect condition.
Speaking of being worn before, definitely take a peek at the reviews before landing on a dress! I found them super helpful in deciding what sizes to order. You can find girls with bodies like your own to see what the dress would look like on you. There is even a sorting function on the reviews that allows you to type in your age, height, dress size, and bra size to see how women sized similarly wore it.
Here is a little peek at how the dress ending up looking in real life:
I absolutely loved this gown. I felt comfortable and glamorous all night, plus it fit the theme perfectly, especially next to Jake’s navy slim-fit suit by The Created Gentleman. On that note, if your man is in the market for a new suit, definitely check out The Created Gentleman; they have some incredibly sharp-looking suits and LTJG Husband loved the way his came out.
If you’ve heard of Rent the Runway but haven’t tried it yet, I definitely recommend it. Even the return was incredibly simple; they included a UPS bag with a prepaid shipping label on it. All I had to do was put the dresses inside, seal it, and send it off. If you’re using it for the first time, you’ll have the added bonus of 20% off your entire order. In fact, I loved it so much I’ll be using RTR again for the Navy Birthday Ball coming up this Saturday ;) Hooyah!
